A Peugeot Partner and a Citroën Berlingo with the 1.6 HDi draw on the same three Bosch EDC16C34 units in our table. A Citroën C4 and a Citroën C4 Picasso, one word apart, have no row in common.
Vehicle names mislead in both directions on this page, and with 37 rows in the table that matters. Below, the vehicles are grouped by how closely they are related, and each group shows whether the relationship carries through to the engine ECU or stops at the badge.
Badge-swapped vans share their rows
Three vans in the table were each sold under a Peugeot name and a Citroën name. The Peugeot Partner and Citroën Berlingo are one van, as are the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Dispatch, and the Peugeot Bipper and Citroën Nemo. The badge on the front changes nothing about the engine ECU behind it.
With the 1.6 HDi, the Partner and Berlingo share three rows: 0281012619, 0281012620 and 0281013871. The Expert and Dispatch, known as the Jumpy outside the UK, share two 1.6 HDi rows, 0281012982 and 0281013869. The Bipper and Nemo are the only vans here with the 1.4 HDi, and they have two rows of their own, 0281014444 and 0281015782.
So a Berlingo owner does not need to hunt for a Citroën-only row, and a garage with a mix of Partners and Berlingos in for work is dealing with one set of units, not two. Either badge leads to the same rows, so use whichever is on the van. What still separates the rows within each van pair is the label.
206 or 207, Xsara Picasso or C4 Picasso: related names, different rows
Related car names work the other way round. The Peugeot 206 and 207 are one digit apart and both appear with each engine size, yet every row we can tie to one of them belongs to that car alone.
A 206 with the 1.4 HDi has four rows and a 207 with the same engine has two, and none of the six is shared. The split holds with the 1.6 HDi: 0281011560 for the 206, and 0281012465 and 0281013868 for the 207.
In practice, a unit from a 206 and a unit from a 207 lead you to entirely different parts of the table, however closely the names match. Confirm which one the unit came from before you start comparing numbers.
The two Picassos follow the same pattern. The Citroën Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDi has three rows, 0281011802, 0281012466 and 0281012468, and the C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi has two, 0281012981 and 0281014729. None of the five belongs to both, so the word before Picasso matters as much as the word itself.
Small details that move the row
The same holds inside a single model name. The Citroën C4 1.6 HDi has one row, 0281012980, and the first of the C4 Picasso’s two rows is the very next Bosch number, 0281012981. Two consecutive numbers, two different vehicles: read the last digit of the label twice before settling on either.
Engine size divides the whole table more cleanly than any model name. Ten rows are 1.4 HDi units, 25 are 1.6 HDi units, and two are recorded without an engine size. The 206 and 207 sit on both sides of that divide, so for those two cars the badge alone never tells you which part of the table to read.
The Citroën C3 and C5 each have one row with an engine size recorded and one without. For the C3 they are 0281011785, a 1.4 HDi unit, and 0281011804; for the C5, 0281011561, a 1.6 HDi unit, and 0281012987. On either car the model name leaves two rows, and the label chooses between them.
When the vehicle stops narrowing, read the label
Some vehicles have several rows, and some rows are listed against so many models that the car is no help at all. The Peugeot 307 1.6 HDi has five rows to itself, more than any other vehicle in the table, and the 407 1.6 HDi has two, 0281011633 and 0281012984.
Four rows belong to that second group. One is a 1.4 HDi unit, 0281011861; the other three, 0281012985, 0281013332 and 0281013872, are 1.6 HDi units. For these, and for choosing among the 307’s five rows or the 1.4 HDi 206’s four, the label is the only identification that works.
Two numbers on the label are worth copying in full. The Bosch number has ten digits beginning 0281, and no Bosch number appears in more than one row. Beside it, the label may carry a Peugeot/Citroën part number beginning 96 and ending 80, and when both agree with the same row, you have found your unit.
One of the two 407 units needs a note of its own. The Peugeot/Citroën number most often seen with 0281011633 is 96 582 746 80, so its label may carry that number rather than the 96 585 781 80 printed in its row. Either way, the Bosch number is what we match on.
If no number on your label matches a row, the unit most likely belongs to a different designation. Look through Peugeot engine ECUs under other designations or Citroën’s full run of engine ECU pages; for a vehicle from any other maker, go to engine ECU repairs across all manufacturers.
What we do once the unit arrives
Fill in the Repair Form, beginning with the vehicle’s badge, then add both numbers from the label, the engine size if you know it and a short description of what the vehicle was doing when the fault appeared. We run a mail-in service for the whole of the UK, so the unit then comes to us by post.
Its arrival is recorded, the case and circuit board are looked over, and electrical testing comes before any diagnosis of the particular fault you reported. The repair itself is done by our own engineers in our UK workshop and is never passed to anyone else. They work at component level under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, on whichever part has failed rather than exchanging the unit.
You then hear what we found, with a quote, and nothing chargeable goes ahead without your say-so. The unit is sent back only after it passes final testing, and the repair carried out is covered by our 24-month warranty.
All 37 rows follow, with each Bosch number beside its Peugeot/Citroën number.
