An Alfa engine ECU is paired to the car through the Fiat/Alfa CODE immobiliser system, so fitting a replacement is rarely a clean swap: a new or donor unit has to be matched to the vehicle, and a used ECU brings its own stored pairing that has to be cleared and re-linked — diagnostic time and specialist coding on top of the part itself, with no guarantee it settles first time.
