Daewoo has not been sold as a new car in the UK for years. The marque folded into GM Daewoo and was rebadged Chevrolet here from around 2005, and that single fact shapes what it takes to keep one running today. A Matiz, Lanos, Nubira or Kalos still earning its keep is doing so on its original electronics, and when the engine ECU on one of those cars fails, a factory replacement is hard to source, long discontinued, or only available secondhand with an unknown history. Repairing the unit the car already has is, for most owners, the practical and dependable way back onto the road.

Daewoo drew its engine control units from the mainstream suppliers of the period rather than building its own, so the units that reach our bench carry familiar supplier references. The Matiz city car commonly runs a Siemens engine ECU. The larger models — Lanos, Nubira and Leganza — typically use Delphi or Delco engine management derived from General Motors, reflecting Daewoo’s move into the GM group, and some units are Bosch. Nexia, Espero, Tacuma and Kalos owners will find their engine control units drawn from the same families.
We refer to these by supplier family rather than quoting a part number for your exact car, because fitment varied by model and by year and we confirm the specific unit rather than guess. If your car is a later GM Daewoo or Chevrolet-badged model, its Delphi and Delco engine electronics share lineage with the wider GM range, so you may also find our Vauxhall/Opel engine ECU repairs relevant. The units are not identical, but they come from the same parts family.
The faults we see on Daewoo engine ECUs are the same electronic failures common across the makes we handle, and nearly all of them are correctable on the circuit board rather than needing a whole new module:
Engine-ECU symptoms overlap with wiring, sensor, earth and battery problems, so it helps to know which signs point back at the control unit itself. The clearest are an engine that cranks but never fires, a repeated and sudden drop into limp mode, misfiring that does not track to a single cylinder, a warning light that will not clear, or a unit that has stopped answering a scan tool altogether. A fault that appeared straight after a jump-start, a flat battery or work around the ECU connector points firmly at the module. Because these symptoms have more than one possible cause, we test every unit before drawing a conclusion — nothing is written off, or repaired, on assumption.
For a discontinued make it usually is, and for two connected reasons. The first is availability: with factory stock long gone, sourcing a sound replacement means trusting a used unit of unknown condition, and that unit still has to be matched to your car. The second is that your original ECU is already coded and paired to the vehicle. We repair it at component level, correcting the specific fault on the board, so the unit goes back keeping its original coding and immobiliser pairing with no reprogramming needed when it is refitted — in practice it fits and runs exactly as it did before the fault appeared. Cost is understandably the next question; we do not quote a flat figure because it depends on the fault, so every unit is diagnosed first and you receive an estimate before any chargeable work begins.
This is a mail-in service covering the whole of the UK, run without a walk-in counter by design. When your unit arrives it is logged, visually inspected and electrically tested, then taken through fault-specific diagnostics. We contact you with the outcome and an estimate, and nothing chargeable proceeds without your authorisation. All work is carried out in our own workshop by our own engineers, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, using genuine OEM-grade components only. A repair is not signed off until it has passed final bench testing, and the work is covered by a 24-month warranty on the specific fault we rectified.
