Note: This ECU may also fit other models.

This is a Magneti Marelli engine ECU rather than a Bosch one, and Marelli label it their own way: a family name, IAW 1AV, then a dot and a short variant code such as V4 or S0. If you are used to finding a ten-digit Bosch reference on a VAG control unit, this label reads differently, and the variant code is what separates one 1AV from another.

The 1AV units on this page are petrol engine ECUs recorded in Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda cars. Below, each variant with a well-supported record is taken in turn: the Volkswagen part number listed with it, where the records agree on one, and the cars it has been found in.

How a Magneti Marelli 1AV reference is written

The reference has two parts. IAW 1AV is the family, common to every variant described here. The code after the dot is the variant, and that is the part to copy exactly as it appears.

Most variants are also listed with a Volkswagen part number in the usual VAG format, such as 032 906 030 D. Sellers print the two references side by side, and we ask for both when you send a unit in.

The variants are not spread evenly across the cars. Some are recorded in a single model, others turn up under two marques, and one car, the VW Polo, appears against four different variants. That is why this page is arranged by variant rather than by car.

IAW 1AV.V0 and 1AV.V1 in the Volkswagen Polo and Golf

IAW 1AV.V0 is paired with Volkswagen number 032 906 030 D. The car recorded for it is the VW Polo. The sources disagree about the engine size, so this page does not give one.

IAW 1AV.V1 is paired with 032 906 030 N and recorded in the VW Golf 1.6. Of the variants described on this page, it is the only one found in a Golf.

Both variants are recorded only in Volkswagens. If the unit from your Volkswagen proves not to be a 1AV, look for it among the Volkswagen entries in our part-number library.

IAW 1AV.V3 and 1AV.V4 in both the Polo and the Ibiza

IAW 1AV.V3 is paired with 030 906 030 E. It is recorded in the VW Polo and in the Seat Ibiza, on the 1.4 16V engine with engine code AFH, and it is the only variant on this page with an engine code attached.

IAW 1AV.V4 is paired with 6K0 906 030 A, one of the most widely listed pairings in the family. It also crosses from Volkswagen to Seat: the records place it in the VW Polo 1.6 and the Seat Ibiza 1.6.

A Polo or an Ibiza fitted with a 1AV could therefore hold either of these two variants. The recorded engines differ, 1.4 16V for V3 and 1.6 for V4, which makes the engine a useful cross-check, but we identify the unit by the code on its label.

IAW 1AV.V6 and 1AV.V7 in the Seat Cordoba

IAW 1AV.V6 is paired with 6K0 906 030 D and is recorded in two cars from different marques, the Seat Cordoba and the VW Polo. No engine size is given for it here.

IAW 1AV.V7 is listed with Volkswagen number 6K0 906 030 E, and the car recorded for it is the Seat Cordoba. Again, only the car is given, with no engine size.

That places the Cordoba against two variants, V6 and V7, just as the Ibiza sits against V3 and V4. Seat engine ECUs from outside the 1AV family are covered in the Seat engine ECU records we hold.

IAW 1AV.S0 in the Skoda Felicia

IAW 1AV.S0 is the one variant on this page recorded in a Skoda: the Felicia. Write the reference down exactly as the label shows it, along with any Volkswagen number printed beside it, and we will match it against our table.

Felicia units that turn out to be something other than a 1AV, and Skoda engine ECUs more generally, are gathered in our Skoda engine ECU roundup.

Where the 1AV variants overlap

Set the sections above side by side and the overlaps are plain. The VW Polo is recorded against four variants: V0, V3, V4 and V6. The Seat Ibiza is recorded against V3 and V4, and the Seat Cordoba against V6 and V7. Only the Golf, on V1, and the Felicia, on S0, sit with a single variant here.

Three variants cross between marques: V3 and V4 appear in both the Polo and the Ibiza, and V6 in both the Polo and the Cordoba. For a Polo, the car on its own still leaves four of the variants described here in play, while the code printed on the label narrows it to one.

Our table holds ten Magneti Marelli 1AV references, and this page describes seven of them. If the unit is from another make, or is not a Marelli at all, go to our engine ECU repair directory.

How we repair a Magneti Marelli 1AV

Wherever the car is in the UK, the 1AV comes to us in a parcel; the service is mail-in only. On arrival each unit is booked in and given a visual check, then tested electrically, and only after that diagnosed against the fault you described.

Soldering on the board is done under a microscope with temperature-controlled equipment. The failed component is traced and then repaired or replaced on the board itself, by our own engineers in our own UK workshop, and no part of the job is passed to anyone else.

When diagnosis is finished we tell you what we found and what the repair involves, and the repair goes ahead only on your instruction. Every repaired unit must pass a final test before it is returned, and the repair carries a 24-month warranty.

If you are not sure we cover a particular 1AV variant, our engineers will check it against the label details you give us. Once you have the full Marelli reference, the Volkswagen number and the car noted down, arrange a repair for your 1AV through our Repair Form.

All ten Magneti Marelli 1AV references that we repair are set out in the table beneath.
