Note: This ECU may also fit other models.

Some listings sell the Bosch EDC1.3.8 units on this page under a second name, MSA11, and that name reaches further than this page does. The two units here are diesel ECUs from the Citroën XM and the Peugeot 605 with the 2.5 TD engine, and each has its own Bosch number.

EDC1.3.8, MSA11 and why the second name is not enough

Where both names appear together, listings print EDC1.3.8 first, with an MSA11 reference in brackets after it. MSA11 on its own, though, is used for more than one EDC version, so a label or listing that says only MSA11 may describe a different unit.

So treat MSA11 as a reason to check, not as a match. Compare the Bosch number on the label with the two listed here. Even EDC1.3.8 itself covers both units on this page, so the name never tells you which one you are holding.

Why an XM or a 605 cannot choose between the rows

Our EDC1.3.8 table has two rows, and the cars recorded against them are identical on each: the Citroën XM 2.5 TD and the Peugeot 605 2.5 TD. Both marques appear on both rows.

Knowing the car therefore confirms the unit belongs on this page, but it cannot take the choice from two units down to one. An XM may have either fitted, and so may a 605. Tell us the car anyway; it is just not what decides the row.

0281001212 or 0281001336: where the two numbers part

The two Bosch numbers are 0281001212 and 0281001336. Both open 0281 001 and run identically up to the seventh digit; at the eighth they part, one finishing 212 and the other 336.

Those last three digits are the ones to read with care, because everything before them fits either row. If the end of the number is worn or hard to make out, send what you can read and mark the digits you are unsure of rather than guessing.

One PSA number on record, one cell left blank

Beside 0281001212 our table prints the PSA number 96 237 486 80, the reference Citroën and Peugeot share. A second PSA number, 96 157 661 80, has also been seen printed alongside 0281001212 on published units, so finding either of the two next to that Bosch number is consistent with this row.

The PSA cell for 0281001336 is blank. That marks the limit of what we can confirm, not proof that the unit carries no PSA number: if yours shows one, copy it onto your enquiry exactly as printed, but do not expect to find it in our table.

If neither Bosch number here matches your label, the unit is a different one, and our technical team will confirm whether we cover it rather than guess. You can also start from Peugeot’s full engine ECU list or its Citroën counterpart, or browse engine ECUs from cars other than the XM and 605.

What happens when your EDC1.3.8 reaches us

Units reach us by post from anywhere in the UK. Each one is logged, inspected by eye, tested electrically and then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you describe, all in-house, by our own engineers in our own UK workshop.

We then report what we found with a quote, and no chargeable work starts until you authorise it. The repair is made at component level, on the part that has failed, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit is not sent back until it passes final testing. The specific repair carried out is covered by our 24-month warranty.

Once the unit is out of the car, fill in the Repair Form and tell us which name and number your label carries, along with whether it came from an XM or a 605 and how the fault shows itself.
