Every Bosch number in the table at the foot of this page begins 0281, and every Peugeot or Citroën number in it begins 96 and ends 80. The digits that find your unit are the ones in between.

These are the Bosch EDC15C2 diesel engine ECUs recorded on 2.0 and 2.2 HDi Peugeots and Citroëns. With 127 rows to search, reading the right part of each label first is far quicker than starting from the car.

Reading the Bosch number from the middle out

Treat the ten-digit Bosch number as three parts. The opening 0281 is shared by every Bosch number here, so it tells you nothing about which row is yours. The next three digits name the stretch of the table to look in, and the last three pick out the row.

The rows run in blocks by that middle group: the 0281 001 numbers sit at the top, followed by a long run of 0281 010, then 0281 011, with a short 0281 012 group near the foot. A label reading 0281010370, for example, sends you into the 0281 010 block, where the closing 370 finds the row.

The table prints each Bosch number as one unbroken string, so match it digit for digit however your label spaces it. If part of the label has worn away, say on the form which digits you can read and leave the rest blank rather than filling them in.

The PSA number: six digits between 96 and 80

The second column, headed OEM Number, holds the PSA reference that Peugeot and Citroën share for the same unit. It is printed in four groups, as in 96 387 948 80, and because the first and last groups repeat on every PSA number here, the six digits in the middle carry all of the difference.

Use it to confirm the row the Bosch number found. Beside 0281010370 the table prints 96 387 948 80, so a label carrying both numbers is a settled match.

If the Bosch number finds a row but the PSA number printed beside it is not the one on your label, do not choose between them. Copy both from the label exactly as they appear and send them with the unit’s details; our technical team will confirm the unit and whether we cover it rather than guess.

Why the car narrows so little on this page

The table has no column for the car, and here that matters less than it might seem. In our records the Peugeot 406 is linked to at least 30 rows and the Peugeot Expert van to at least 25, while the Citroën Xsara and C5 each account for more than a dozen.

Even the less common cars leave a choice. The Peugeot Partner and the Peugeot 806 are each linked to three rows, and only the label can say which of the three is yours.

Put the car on the form all the same. It belongs with the enquiry; it just cannot choose the row by itself.

2.0 or 2.2 HDi: the one coarse cut

Engine size is the vehicle detail that does divide the table. Most rows are recorded against the 2.0 HDi, and the 2.2 HDi rows form the smaller group, found mostly on the 406, 607 and C5 saloons and on the 807 and C8 people carriers.

The 406 shows the cut at work. Bosch 0281010166, paired with 96 362 559 80, is recorded on the 406 2.0 HDi, and Bosch 0281010370, paired with 96 387 948 80, on the 406 2.2 HDi: one car, two engines, two different units.

The Bosch blocks follow engine size only loosely. Every 0281 001 number is recorded against the 2.0 HDi, and the 0281 010 and 0281 011 blocks lean the same way, with the 2.2 HDi rows spread through them rather than grouped. Engine size places you in a group; the label still has to find the row.

One unit, more than one badge

Many EDC15C2 numbers are recorded on more than one model, and across both marques, so a Peugeot owner and a Citroën owner can be holding the same unit. The badge on the car is not what makes the match.

Bosch 0281010591 with 96 435 271 80 is recorded on both the Peugeot Expert and the Citroën Jumpy 2.0 HDi vans. Bosch 0281011363 with 96 525 902 80 is recorded on the Peugeot 807 and the Citroën C8 2.2 HDi people carriers. And 0281001974 with 96 351 578 80 crosses from car to van within Peugeot, recorded on the 206 and the Partner 2.0 HDi.

If neither of your numbers appears in the table, the unit is probably another designation. Look through Peugeot engine units beyond the EDC15C2 and the Citroën engine ECUs we list separately, or start from engine ECUs for cars wearing neither the lion nor the double chevron.

Sending your EDC15C2 to our workshop

With the unit out of the car, fill in the Repair Form, starting with the two label numbers, then add the model, the engine size and what the car was doing when the fault appeared. We work by post and take units from anywhere in the UK.
