Every Ford Ka engine ECU number on this page carries the same six characters in the middle: 12A650. What decides which of our repair pages covers your unit is everything either side of them, and the sections below take you from those characters to the right page.
This page used to describe the Ka’s ABS module, which is a different unit from the engine ECU and not one we repair. Everything here is about the engine ECU.
Reading the Ford number on a Ka engine ECU label
The number to copy is the Ford one, which we write in three groups, such as 97KB-12A650-BC. Copy every character, including the two letters at the end. Our tables list each number with its full ending, and two Ka numbers that match up to those last two letters are not always both on our pages.
In our Visteon tables you will also see a four-letter code beside the Ford number. That code is our table’s own label for the row; this page routes on the Ford number.
Which of our pages lists your Ka’s number
Seven Ford numbers on record from a Ka or StreetKa lead straight to one of our family pages. Some sit on our Visteon EEC-V pages, others on our Siemens SIM24 page.
| Ford number | On record from | Our page |
|---|---|---|
| 98KB-12A650-DA | Ford Ka 1.3 | Visteon EEC-V LPE-627 |
| 97KB-12A650-BC | Ford Ka 1.3 | Visteon EEC-V LPE-307 |
| XS5F-12A650-FA | Ford Ka 1.3 | Visteon EEC-V LP4-321 |
| 5S51-12A650-BC | Ford Ka 1.3 | Siemens SIM24 |
| 1S5X-12A650-BD | Ford Ka 1.3 | Siemens SIM24 |
| 1S5X-12A650-BE | Ford Ka 1.3 | Siemens SIM24 |
| 3S51-12A650-BE | Ford StreetKa | Siemens SIM24 |
The Siemens SIM24 page lists four of the seven: 5S51-12A650-BC, 1S5X-12A650-BD, 1S5X-12A650-BE and 3S51-12A650-BE. Every record of 3S51-12A650-BE we found names the StreetKa rather than the Ka. The other three numbers have a Visteon page each.
Why the car alone cannot pick the page
Six of the seven numbers are on record from a Ka 1.3, three on the Visteon side and three on the Siemens side. A Ka 1.3 on its own could therefore lead to any of those six numbers, and to four different pages between them.
The label settles what the car cannot. If the car and the label ever seem to disagree, go by the label and tell us both.
Ka numbers that go to the Repair Form instead
1S5F-12A650-AB is on record from a Ka 1.3 too, but we do not route it to a family page here. If that is the number on your unit, send it through the Repair Form and we will confirm the unit before anything else happens.
The same goes for any Ka number that is not in the table. A number missing from this page is not a unit we have turned away; our technical team confirms coverage for the specific unit rather than guessing from a near match.
What happens once a Ka engine ECU reaches us
The service is mail-in and runs the same way from anywhere in the UK. Each unit is logged, inspected and electrically tested before fault-specific diagnosis starts.
The repair itself is done in-house, by our own engineers in our own UK workshop, at component level: the specific fault is found and repaired rather than the whole unit being swapped. A repair is not finished until the unit passes final testing.
Before any chargeable work begins, we contact you with the findings and a quote, and nothing more is done until you authorise it. The work is covered by a 24-month warranty on the specific repair carried out.
What to put on the Repair Form for a Ka
When you tell us the Ford number and the car, give the number exactly as the label shows it, closing letters included. Add whether the car is a Ka or a StreetKa, the engine size if you know it, and what the car was doing when the fault appeared.
If the unit came from a Ford other than the Ka, start from what we cover beyond the Ka. For a different make altogether, go to where every other make starts.

I have a 2006 Ford Ka which has an ABS light on and the speedo does not work. My scanner (Snapon Verdict) wont communicate with the ABS system. Is this the how a faulty ABS ECU presents itself?
Hello John
Thanks for the enquiry,
Yeah, if you’re getting no comms via the diagnostic port then just check to make sure you can still communicate with the other modules i.e. Engine ECU and BSI module. If you can communicate with other modules then this rules out the diagnostic port and your scanner being the fault. Then you need to confirm you’ve got voltage going TO the ABS pump and that all the fuses/relays for the ABS are Okay. Also a wiring continuity check for the ABS module to make sure there are no breaks in the wire which could cause loss of signal.
If all checks out okay then you’ve got a definite ABS module fault on your hands.. it’s a very common fault and we’re able to fully remanufacture these now with a Lifetime warranty. For pricing, please call us on 0208 853 5000.
