The engine ECUs on this page all come from the smaller end of Ford’s range, and each is on record as an LP4-321 unit. We repair these units at component level in our own UK workshop, and the engine ECU you send is the one that goes back into the car.

XS5F-12A650-FA: the Ka row

XS5F-12A650-FA, printed with the word FIFA after it, is on record from the Ford Ka 1.3. It is the Ka row in our table, and the only number there to begin with XS5F.

Our table prints it without hyphens, as XS5F12A650FA, with FIFA after a space. Broken back into its parts, that is the base XS5F, the middle part 12A650 and the ending FA. If the label on a Ka unit gives you those three parts and the word FIFA, this is the row its repair is booked against.

Seven XS6F numbers, each on record from the Fiesta

Seven of the eight Ford numbers begin XS6F-12A650, and each of them is on record from the Ford Fiesta as an LP4-321 unit. The detail on record for each is set out below, row by row, in the order our table lists them.

XS6F-12A650-ADA, which carries the word FARM, is on record from the Fiesta 1.2. XS6F-12A650-ADB, printed with PITH, is on record from the Fiesta. XS6F-12A650-AKA, with RAFT, and XS6F-12A650-AKB, with SHAY, are both on record from the Fiesta 1.3.

XS6F-12A650-NA carries MASH, XS6F-12A650-PA carries PIES and XS6F-12A650-PB carries CHOP, and each is on record from the Fiesta. For any of the seven, the full Ford number, read through to the ending, is what tells us which row the unit belongs to.

Counting the letters after 12A650

With the hyphens gone, the ending is the part of each number that needs the most care. Everything after 12A650 is the ending, and on this page it is two letters long or three: FA, NA, PA and PB have two, while ADA, ADB, AKA and AKB have three.

Read XS6F12A650NA from the end and it finishes in NA; read XS6F12A650ADA the same way and it finishes in ADA. When you match a label, take the ending exactly as it is printed and check that the number of letters agrees with the row, as well as the letters themselves.

Every word in our table is four letters long and follows the number after a space, which makes it easy to see where the number stops. Where the last letter of an ending is worn, that word gives you a second reading of the same row.

What our engineers do with an LP4-321 unit

When the unit arrives it is logged, given a visual inspection and an electrical test, and then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you reported. We come back to you with our findings and an estimate, and no chargeable work begins until you have authorised it.

Our own engineers carry out the repair at component level, working under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment. The unit is not finished until it passes final testing, and the repair leaves our workshop with a 24-month warranty attached to it.
