All four Siemens Simos PPD1.5 engine ECUs on this page are recorded against the same car: the diesel Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI PD of the B6 generation. Two letters at the end of the label reference are all that separate them, and those two letters are the part most easily lost between the car and our workshop. This page shows where they drop out and how to keep them.
The reference is unfinished without its last two letters
Each of these units carries a Volkswagen-group reference that begins 03G 906 018, and on all four that opening is identical. The reference is completed by a two-letter suffix, CD, CE, CK or FG, and the suffix is the only part of the label that tells one of these units from another.
The rest of the label supports the reading without settling it. Siemens built the unit, and many labels carry the Siemens VDO name as well. Each unit is labelled Simos PPD1.5, and each is recorded against the B6 Passat with the 2.0 TDI PD engine. All of that is true of every reference here, which is exactly why a description built from it fits all four.
The engine code works the same way. CE, CK and FG are each recorded against the BKP engine, so BKP is a fair check that the unit came from the right Passat, but it cannot tell you which of those three you are holding.
Where the suffix goes missing
The label itself keeps the two letters. The risk comes afterwards, because every shorter way of naming this unit sounds complete. A job card reading “Passat 2.0 TDI PD ECU”, an enquiry about “the PPD1.5”, or a note that stops at 03G 906 018 each fits all four units on this page equally well.
Take the reading from the unit itself rather than from memory or an earlier note. Copy the reference character by character with the suffix included, or photograph the label where it can be read clearly. If the suffix is hard to make out, say so instead of picking the nearest of the four listed here: once it has been typed, a guessed suffix looks exactly as certain as one that was read.
The same applies to a garage handling the unit for a customer. A reference can pass through several hands before it reaches us, and it arrives only as complete as the least complete copy it went through.
When the letters are not CD, CE, CK or FG
The record on this page covers four suffixes, all from the B6 Passat 2.0 TDI PD. A unit whose reference ends in anything else, or one that came out of a different Volkswagen, is not described here, and this page cannot confirm it either way. Our Volkswagen engine ECU page is the next stop for any other Volkswagen reference.
If the unit came out of a car that is not a Volkswagen at all, work through our engine ECU repair A-to-Z rather than matching it against this list. A close match is not a match when the difference is the suffix.
Sending the unit with its reference intact
We work as a mail-in service for the whole of the UK, so the unit travels by post whether it comes from the Passat’s owner or from a garage. Before it goes, spell out the full suffix on the Repair Form, together with the rest of the reference and the car it came from, so that the parcel and your enquiry say the same thing when it arrives.
On arrival the unit is logged, inspected and electrically tested, then diagnosed at component level for the fault it came in with. All of it happens in-house, by our own engineers, in our own UK workshop, on our own equipment. We report what we find, and no repair work starts until you have authorised it.
Authorised repairs are carried out under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and a repair is not finished until the unit passes final testing. Because the failed component is repaired rather than the whole unit replaced, what comes back to the Passat is the unit whose reference you sent us, suffix and all, with a 24-month warranty on the specific repair carried out.
The four references, each with its own suffix, are listed in the table below.
