A Transit engine ECU can reach us from a private owner, from a garage working on a customer’s van, or from whoever looks after a fleet of them. Three Transit numbers, told apart at the ending

Every number on this page begins 1C1A-12A650, so the start of a label will not tell you which row you have. The ending does. AE stands apart from the other two, while TC and TD differ by a single letter, C against D.

The four-character word printed after the number is the second thing to read. NDH1 is on record with AE, and 3AYA with TC. Some listings run the LP2-317 name and the TC word together as a single string, LP2-3173AYA, so the TC unit can turn up under either.

Engine size on the AE and TC records

Engine size is on record for two of the three rows. AE and TC are both on record from the 2.3-litre Transit, and AE is also on record against the 16-valve engine. For TD, the engine size is not confirmed, so state it on the Repair Form.

Engine size alone therefore will not settle which row you have, so the size you give us is detail to pass on rather than a way to choose the row. The full number and its word are what to note before the unit is packed.

Repairing an LP2-317 unit at component level

On arrival the unit is logged and inspected, then electrically tested before fault-specific diagnostics begin. Once we know what has failed, we tell you and give you an estimate; nothing chargeable is done without your go-ahead.

The repair is carried out at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit only comes back to you once it has passed final testing. Whatever we repair on it stays under warranty for 24 months.
