The badge on the car decides how much of our Bosch EDC15P table it can settle for you. In our records, a Skoda leads to a single row, each Volkswagen model to a row of its own, and an Audi A4 to two rows that the car itself cannot separate.

Which Bosch EDC15P is on record from a Skoda?

Skoda is the shortest route. Our records tie 0281 010 289 to the Skoda Fabia, with a 1.9 TDI on record against it, and that is the one Bosch number in the table we hold a Skoda record for. Beside it in the table is 038906019AF.

A short route is still only a pointer. Our records show where each unit has been found, not every car it was fitted to, so check the Bosch number on the case before you settle on the row.

Which Volkswagen models point to which row?

Volkswagen takes one step more, because three models are on record and each is tied to a different Bosch number. The Golf is on record against 0281 010 302, the Polo against 0281 011 075, with a 1.9 TDI on record for that unit, and the Passat against 0281 010 705.

For a Volkswagen, then, the model does the narrowing that the badge alone did for the Skoda. Take the model name from the V5C, find its row, and compare the Bosch number on the unit with it. If the two disagree, trust the number on the unit, and send it to us all the same.

Why can the Audi A4 not settle the row on its own?

Audi is the longest route, although it involves only two rows. The Audi A4 is on record against both 0281 010 226 and 0281 011 141, so naming the car leaves both of them standing.

Engine size does not break the tie either. We hold a 1.9 TDI on record against 0281 010 226, but not enough size records against 0281 011 141 to lean on. The two have to be told apart from the label: by the Bosch number, and by the number printed beside it, 038906019BR for 0281 010 226 and 038906019JP for 0281 011 141.

What do the letters after 038 906 019 tell you?

In our table, 0281 010 226, 0281 010 289, 0281 010 302, 0281 011 075 and 0281 011 141 each have a Volkswagen-group part number printed beside them. All of those begin 038 906 019, so the first nine digits place a unit in the right family of numbers and no further. The two letters after them change from row to row: BR, AF, CJ, JK and JP.

JK and JP begin with the same letter, which is why both letters matter. Copy the Bosch number and the 038 906 019 number onto your enquiry exactly as the label prints them, letters included, so that we can check one against the other.

0281 010 705 has no Volkswagen-group number beside it in our table. For that unit the Bosch number is what identifies it, so read its ten digits twice. If the label carries a further number, include that too.

What happens once your Bosch EDC15P reaches us?
