Note: This ECU may also fit other models.

There are two kinds of vehicle-manufacturer number on this page, and they answer two different questions. Thirty-one of the hundred and two references share a single base, 06A 906 032. The remaining references are spread across thirteen further bases under nine prefixes — 8N0, 4B0, 8D0, 8E0, 8L0, 3B0, 6K0, 8D1 and 1ML.

The difference is not cosmetic. Across the thirty-one that share the 06A base, the cars two or more independent suppliers agree on reach all four VAG marques and eleven different models. Across the other seventy-one, fifty-three of the rows come back as Audis.

So the first thing worth settling about a Bosch ME7.5 is which of those two numbers is printed beside the Bosch reference on the label, because what it does for you is not the same in each case.

One check before any of that. ME7.5 and ME7.5.10 are different control units with different part numbers, and this page covers the first of the two. If the case in front of you reads ME7.5.10, ME7.5.10 engine ECUs are a separate job.

Which of the two numbers are you holding?

One rule decides what appears on this page and what does not: a car is named only where two or more independent suppliers place it on that exact reference. A single listing is not enough, and there are rows below that are left with no car against them as a result. On two of the hundred and two, nothing about the car or the engine clears that bar at all.

Take the 06A 906 032 references first. All thirty-one open with the same nine characters, and the cars corroborated behind them are Volkswagens, Audis, Seats and Skodas — not one marque with a few strays, but all four, repeatedly. Some rows carry more than one marque, which is why the counts on this page overlap rather than add up. A base shared by every marque in the group is not the part of the number telling you the car.

The thirteen other bases behave differently, and the concentration is not evenly spread. Fifty-three of the remaining seventy-one rows have an Audi against them. Every corroborated car on the 8E0, 8N0, 8L0 and 8D1 bases is an Audi; on the three 3B0 907 557 references it is the Passat every time; on 6K0 906 032 it is the Ibiza; on 1ML 906 032 it is the Leon.

The consequence is a matter of direction. If the reference in front of you begins 06A 906 032, working back from the number to the car will not get you far, and working forward from the badge will not either: that base is on cars from all four marques. Quote the reference whole and let it do the identifying. If it begins with anything else on this page, the base has already narrowed the field a long way before you reach the letters on the end.

The thirty-one references on the 06A 906 032 base

Named by model rather than by marque, this is the block that reaches furthest. Volkswagen brings the Golf, the Beetle, the Sharan and the Jetta. Audi brings the A3, and on 06A 906 032 MJ the TT. Seat brings the Leon, the Ibiza and the Alhambra, and Skoda the Octavia and the Fabia. Eleven models, four marques, one base number.

Three references show how open the marque can be. 06A 906 032 AJ and 06A 906 032 GR are each documented against the Volkswagen Sharan and the Seat Alhambra by two independent suppliers apiece, so on those two the badge is genuinely unresolved rather than simply unrecorded. 06A 906 032 HN goes further: three suppliers give it as an Audi A3, three as a Seat Leon and two as a Volkswagen Golf. One reference, three marques, all three properly sourced.

The engine sizes are narrower than the badges. A 1.8 turbo is corroborated on fourteen of the thirty-one, a 1.8 on eight and a 2.0 on eight; where a row carries two of those, it counts in both figures. That is the whole of what the record agrees on — no other capacity is corroborated on any of the thirty-one, and on six of them no capacity is corroborated at all.

The Golf and the A3 are the two most frequent cars in the block, each corroborated on six separate references, with the Sharan on five and the Beetle and the Leon on four apiece. Golf, Beetle, Sharan and Jetta engine ECUs reach us steadily, and the Volkswagen chapter of the same catalogue runs a long way past the references listed here.

The Audi A4 under six different base numbers

The A4 is the most heavily corroborated car on the page, and it does not sit in one number family. It appears under six separate bases: on six of the nine 8D0 906 018 rows, on seven of the eight 8E0 909 518 rows, on all six 8E0 909 557 rows, on both 8E0 906 018 rows, and on the single references 8E0 907 557 F and 8E0 909 018 A.

That is an observation about the records, not an explanation of them. Nothing in the public record says why one model name is filed under six different bases, and this page will not guess at it. The practical effect is easier to state: searching on the car’s name puts you in several number families at once, and the number on the label is the only thing that says which one you are in.

The engines do split along the base, which is some help. Where a 8D0 906 018 row has a corroborated capacity it is usually a 1.8. The 8E0 909 518 rows are the turbocharged 1.8 on seven of eight. And on the 8E0 909 557 rows it is the 2.0, corroborated on every one of the six. Three bases, three answers, from what is nominally the same model.

Everything we take in under the Audi badge goes well beyond the A4, and the next two names on this page are the TT and the S3.

The TT and the S3 on the same two bases

All fourteen 8N0 906 018 references have an Audi against them, and two model names do the whole job: the TT on eleven of the fourteen, the S3 on five, with two references carrying both. The five 8L0 906 018 rows behave the same way on a smaller scale — the TT on three, the S3 on two, and no overlap between them.

No published record explains why those two model names share a base, and none is offered here. What it amounts to is that a 8N0 or a 8L0 reference settles the marque and leaves the model open, and that on this page those two bases account for nineteen of the hundred and two rows.

The remaining bases, and the cars against them

The fifteen 4B0 906 018 rows carry the widest mix of cars of any single base here — the A4, the A6 and the Passat are all corroborated across them, and they and the nine 8D0 906 018 rows are the only two bases on the page that return more than one marque. 4B0 906 018 DH also brings in the one Skoda in this half of the list, the Superb, alongside a Passat that eight independent records agree on.

The rest resolve cleanly. The three 3B0 907 557 references are Passats, all three, and the 2.0 is corroborated on two of them. Both 8D1 906 018 references are Audi A3s. Both 6K0 906 032 references are the Seat Ibiza, and both 1ML 906 032 references are the Seat Leon.

Seat’s share of the part-number library is wider than those four references suggest: the Leon, the Ibiza and the Alhambra all appear on the 06A block as well, under numbers that carry no Seat prefix at all.

What happens to a ME7.5 on our bench

Every unit is logged in, inspected and put on electrical test before anything is opened, so the fault is established on the bench rather than taken on trust from what the car was doing. The repair itself is component-level: the specific failure is found and put right on the board that arrived, under a microscope, with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and nothing is signed off until it has passed final testing.

All of that happens in our own UK workshop, on our own equipment, by our own engineers; none of it is sent out. Because the work is done on the board that came off your car, there is nothing to match up at the vehicle’s end when it goes back. Every repair carries a 24-month warranty on the work carried out.

The service is mail-in and it covers the whole of the UK. The unit is tested and diagnosed first, we tell you what has failed and what the repair comes to, and no chargeable work starts until you have said to go ahead.

What we need from you is the label read out in full: the ten-digit Bosch reference beginning 0261, and the vehicle-manufacturer number printed beside it, trailing letters included. If that second number begins 06A 906 032, tell us the car as well, because on this page that base does not narrow it. Copy the reference onto the Repair Form exactly as it reads, and our engineers will confirm what the unit is before anything else happens.

Below is the whole list: a hundred and two rows, Bosch reference first, vehicle-manufacturer number second.
