The three Ford numbers listed on this page do not come with the same amount of record behind them. 2M5F-12A650-AJ and 2M5F-12A650-AL are both on record from the Ford Focus ST170 and its 2.0 petrol engine, while 2U7A-12A650-SA has nothing said about it here beyond its label. We repair engine ECUs carrying any of the three at component level.

Two numbers with the Focus ST170 behind them

Both 2M5F numbers are on record from the Mk1 Focus in ST170 form, from its 2.0 engine and from petrol cars. The car is therefore consistent with either number, but it offers no way of choosing between them; that is left to the label.

2M5F-12A650-AL is on record as an LBO-210 unit, with the word 3NFG printed after it. In our table, the word after 2M5F-12A650-AJ is 3NFE.

Where AJ and AL part company

Up to the ending, the two numbers are identical, both built on 2M5F-12A650. The ending’s last letter is J on one and L on the other, and their words also differ only in the final letter: E against G.

Because the number and its word change by different letters, each has to be read off the label for itself. An AL ending is not a full match on its own, either: the whole 2M5F-12A650 base has to agree as well.

The SA number and the word MANY

The third number sits on a different base, 2U7A-12A650, and ends SA. The word printed after it in our table is MANY. It reads like ordinary English, but it stands in the same place as 3NFE and 3NFG and is part of the label in just the same way.

Nothing more about this number is stated here, so the label alone identifies it: base, ending and word, copied exactly as printed. A base that matches neither 2M5F-12A650 nor 2U7A-12A650 points to the Ford engine ECUs that start from another base.

What our engineers do with the unit

The work is carried out by our own engineers, in our UK workshop and on our equipment. Each unit is logged, inspected and tested electrically before the diagnosis turns to the fault you have described.

We then report the cause and an estimate to you, and nothing chargeable begins until you approve it. The repair itself is made at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit is not returned until it passes final testing. A 24-month warranty covers that repair.

Getting the unit to our workshop

Units reach us by post from anywhere in the UK. Before yours is packed, write the label out in full on our Repair Form, including the word after the number, and say what the fault does on the car.

A unit from a different make of car is better served by the engine ECU repairs we offer outside Ford, and what we repair and what we leave alone is set out on its own page.

In the table below, each Ford number is printed without its hyphens and followed by its word, so 2M5F-12A650-AL appears as 2M5F12A650AL 3NFG.
