The Bosch EDC15C belongs to one of the most widely fitted families of diesel engine management ECUs, and the faults these units develop are, in the great majority of cases, correctable at component level rather than requiring a whole new unit. What goes wrong with the Bosch EDC15C

• Injector driver-stage faults. Failure in the output stages that control the diesel injectors can cause misfires, rough running, a down-on-power engine or a cylinder that drops out entirely.
• Running and cutting-out faults. Intermittent stalling, hesitation, limp mode or an engine that cuts out and restarts points to internal dry joints or degraded components on the board.
• Immobiliser and sensor-circuit faults. Internal damage on the sensor or immobiliser circuits can leave the vehicle refusing to start even though the mechanical side of the engine is sound.

These symptoms are easy to mistake for wiring, injector or sensor problems on the car, which is why every unit is tested properly before any conclusion is drawn.

The repair itself is carried out at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment — a failed injector driver, a corrupted memory chip, a dry joint or a failed voltage regulator is repaired or replaced, rather than the whole board being swapped.
