Both Bosch MSA15.5 units on this page run a 2.5 TD diesel, and both Bosch numbers begin 0281 001, so neither the engine nor the start of the label says which of the two you are holding. What does say it is the short list of things the two rows do not share.

What both MSA15.5 rows share, and why it rules nothing out

Our table holds two MSA15.5 references. Each is a diesel unit, each is recorded against a 2.5 TD engine, and each Bosch number opens with the same seven digits. The name is sometimes written MSA 15.5, with a space, as it is in this page’s heading; it is the same designation.

Those shared details are worth confirming, because a unit that does not match them is not one of the two on this page. What they cannot do is choose between the two rows. A 2.5 TD engine matches both rows, and a Bosch number starting 0281 001 could belong to either.

Voyager or Grand Cherokee: the first real split

The two rows are recorded against different vehicles, sold under different badges. 0281001333 belongs to the Chrysler Voyager 2.5 TD, 0281001437 to the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.5 TD. Know which of the two the unit was taken from and you are down to one row before reading the label.

A Jeep under a heading and a spec line that both say Chrysler can look like a mistake. It is not: the part number on the Grand Cherokee unit’s label is a Chrysler-group number, and that is why the unit is listed here. Where the two Bosch numbers part company

Written in full, the Bosch numbers are 0281001333 and 0281001437. They agree for seven digits and first differ at the eighth, a 3 against a 4, so it is the last three digits, 333 or 437, that identify the unit. Stopping at 0281 001 confirms the page, not the row. Take those three digits from the label on the unit itself.

The Chrysler numbers split from the very first group

The Chrysler part numbers behave the other way round. Our table lists P04686 660AB against the Voyager unit and P56028 704AC against the Grand Cherokee unit, and they differ from the opening group onwards, 04686 against 56028. Find the Chrysler number on the label and the two rows cannot be confused.

Published listings for the same Bosch numbers also show the Voyager number ending 660AD and the Grand Cherokee number ending 704AD, with the characters in front of the letters unchanged. Send the whole Chrysler number exactly as printed, letters included, and it is checked against the unit when it reaches us.

So the two numbers on the label do different jobs on this page: the Chrysler number separates the rows at a glance, and the Bosch number does so only once you read past its seventh digit.
