Once you have read the two digits after the dot on your Magneti Marelli 1AP label, the car it came from has a different job to do. It no longer picks the unit. It checks whether what we have on record for that number agrees with your car, and the answer can be yes, partly, or no.

The cars on record against the eight numbers in our table are the Peugeot 206, 106 and 306 and the Citroën Saxo, all with petrol engines. Each answer means something different for your unit, and none of them is a reason not to send it.

Where a Magneti Marelli 1AP label names the unit

Every number in our table begins IAW 1AP and a dot, so that much only tells you this is the right page. The unit itself is named by the two digits after the dot. IAW 1AP.40 and IAW 1AP.41 are different units, and so are 1AP.80, 1AP.81 and 1AP.90, so copy both digits exactly.

Sellers print the same number in more than one way. IAW1AP.40, 1AP40 and IAW 1AP.40 all describe one unit. Some labels add a stroke and a further digit, as in IAW1AP.90/1; if yours does, give it to us exactly as printed.

Our record for each Magneti Marelli 1AP number

These are the cars and engine sizes we have on record against each number. Six of the eight have a car and six have an engine size, but only four have both.

  • IAW 1AP.10: Peugeot 306, with no engine size on record
  • IAW 1AP.20: the 1.8 engine, with no car on record
  • IAW 1AP.40: the 1.4 engine, with no car on record
  • IAW 1AP.41: Citroën Saxo, with no engine size on record
  • IAW 1AP.50: Peugeot 106 and Citroën Saxo, 1.4 engine
  • IAW 1AP.80: Peugeot 206, 1.1 engine
  • IAW 1AP.81: Peugeot 206, 1.4 engine
  • IAW 1AP.90: Peugeot 206, 1.4 engine

Two numbers also have a Peugeot or Citroën part number we can quote. The label on an IAW 1AP.40 carries 96 292 446 80. Our table lists IAW 1AP.80 against 96 359 909, which a label may show with 80 added at the end, and other 96 numbers also appear with this unit. For the remaining six, the table lists the unit by its Marelli number only.

Checking your car against our Magneti Marelli 1AP record

Full agreement is the firmest check the car can give. A Peugeot 206 1.1 with IAW 1AP.80 on the label, or a Peugeot 106 1.4 with IAW 1AP.50, matches our record on both counts.

Even full agreement cannot separate every unit. Three numbers are on record against the Peugeot 206: 1AP.80, 1AP.81 and 1AP.90. Two of them, 1AP.81 and 1AP.90, share both the car and the 1.4 engine, so a 206 1.4 agrees with either and only the two digits after the dot tell them apart.

The 1.4 on its own confirms little, because it is also on record against 1AP.40 and 1AP.50.

Partial agreement is the most some numbers can offer. IAW 1AP.10 has the Peugeot 306 on record but no engine size, IAW 1AP.41 has the Citroën Saxo but no size, and IAW 1AP.20 has the 1.8 but no car. IAW 1AP.40 is in the same position, though the 96 number on its label gives you a second check. With these, one half of your description can agree with our record, and the other half has nothing to compare against.

A car that differs from our record does not rule your unit out. Each car listed here is one we have on record against that number, not the only car it can have come from. If the digits on your label match a row, the match stands.

Magneti Marelli 1AP details for the Repair Form

Put the Marelli number on the Repair Form, dot and both digits included, and add any 96 number printed on the label. Give the car and its engine size, then describe the fault in a sentence or two. If either digit is hard to read, tell us plainly rather than guessing; on a 206 1.4, a wrong digit can point to a different unit.

The car can stay where it is: we take engine ECUs by post from anywhere in the UK.

If the label turns out not to read IAW 1AP at all, Peugeot engine ECUs that are not a 1AP and Citroën engine ECUs from other families list what else we repair for Peugeot and Citroën. For a car from another manufacturer, go to engine ECU repairs, sorted by make.

After a Magneti Marelli 1AP arrives: diagnosis, repair and final test

Your unit is logged as it comes into our UK workshop, then inspected, tested electrically and diagnosed against the fault described on your form. Our own engineers carry out all of it in-house, on our own equipment, with nothing sent out.

You hear our diagnosis first, and nothing chargeable is done until you have authorised it. The failed component is then repaired under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, so the Marelli unit that came out of your car is the one that goes back in.

It has to pass final testing before it leaves us, and the repair carries our 24-month warranty.

The table below sets out the eight Magneti Marelli 1AP numbers we repair, with a Peugeot or Citroën number beside the two that have one.
