An M after 16F divides the Magneti Marelli codes in our table into two groups. Some codes print 16F straight before the dot, as in IAW 16F.E3, while in others, such as IAW 16FM.E6, the M comes between.

The sections below read a code from left to right: 16F or 16FM first, then the two characters after the dot. What is on record follows, code by code, and the page closes with how our workshop carries out the repair.

16F or 16FM, then two characters after the dot

In our table, the dot follows either 16F or 16FM. A reading that drops the M from a 16FM code no longer matches that code’s row, so check for the M before comparing anything else.

Within each group, the two characters after the dot are where codes in our table part company. IAW 16F.E3 and IAW 16F.EB share an E, then differ at the character after it, and IAW 16FM.EC and IAW 16FM.ED do the same. Our table also prints IAW 16FM.A0 and IAW 16FM.C0, whose closing pairs end in 0.

On a unit, the code may be printed without the space or the dot, as IAW16FE3, and it may sit on the label with other numbers. If the code on the label appears in our table, read 16F or 16FM first and the two characters after the dot second to find its row.

The car and engine size details below are on record for the codes covered here, so go by the code read from the unit rather than the car it came out of.

What happens once a unit reaches us

Engine ECUs reach us by post from across the UK. On arrival, each unit is logged and inspected visually, then electrically tested before diagnostics specific to its fault begin.

You are then contacted with the outcome, and no chargeable work begins without your authorisation.

The repair itself is done in-house, by our own engineers in our own UK workshop. They work under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, repairing the specific fault at component level instead of swapping the whole unit.

No repair is complete until the unit passes final testing. Once it has, the unit is posted back, and the specific repair we carried out is backed by our 24-month warranty.

Contact us for a quote via the Repair Form, where engine ECU quotes are requested.

For more on the make, see our Fiat engine ECU repair listings. That page forms part of engine ECU repairs make by make, and what our engine ECU repair service includes is set out on a page of its own.

Our table follows, with the Magneti Marelli codes in its first column.
