Whether a Bosch MA1.7.3 came out of a Fiat Bravo or a Fiat Brava, the table at the foot of this page offers the same two rows. Both are recorded against the same pair of cars, so that question can be set aside: the four digits that follow 0261 20 on the label are what tell the two units apart.

Bravo or Brava 1.4: both MA1.7.3 rows either way

The sources we checked place 0261203868 and 0261204405 in the Fiat Bravo and the Fiat Brava, each time with the 1.4 12-valve petrol engine. Both numbers are confirmed as MA1.7.3 units, and the spec lines above give petrol as the fuel.

Knowing which of the two models you have, and its engine size, therefore brings you to this page and no further. Neither detail leans towards one row rather than the other.

Blank OEM cells leave the Bosch number to do the work

Our table has an OEM column, and on both MA1.7.3 rows it is empty. We have not confirmed a Fiat part number for either unit, so none is printed there and none is offered here in its place.

That leaves the Bosch number as the one entry that differs between the rows. If your case also carries a Fiat number, include it exactly as printed when you contact us, but match the table on the Bosch number.

3868 or 4405: the tail end of the Bosch number

Both numbers begin 0261 20, and from that point every digit is different. 0261203868 continues 3868 and 0261204405 continues 4405, so those last four digits decide the row on their own.

The first of the four also places each number in its Bosch range: 868 comes from the 0261 203 range and 405 from 0261 204. If part of your label has worn away, the end of the number is the part to check first.

A label may print the number in groups, as 0261 203 868 or 0261 204 405, where our table runs the digits together. The grouping is presentation only; the digits are identical.

Inside our workshop, step by step

An MA1.7.3 sent to us goes through a fixed sequence in our own UK workshop, worked on by our own engineers, with nothing subcontracted:

  1. It is logged on arrival, inspected visually and tested electrically.
  2. Diagnostics aimed at the fault you describe identify the specific failure.
  3. We contact you with the outcome, and no chargeable work begins until you authorise it.
  4. The failed component is repaired on the unit you sent, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment.
  5. The unit has to pass final testing before it comes back to you.

The repair carried out is then covered by a 24-month warranty.

What to put on the Repair Form for an MA1.7.3

We work by post, with units sent in from across the UK. To begin, start the Repair Form with the full Bosch number, all ten digits as they appear on the case, then say whether it came from a Bravo or a Brava.

If your case gives a designation other than MA1.7.3, go one level up, to Fiat, or two levels up, to engine ECU repairs as a whole. Otherwise, the table below holds both MA1.7.3 rows, with each Bosch number printed without spaces.
