Siemens SID 801 Engine ECU TestingType: Siemens Engine Management

Fuel: Diesel
Ref: ECUT117250

Note: This ECU may also fit other models.

Our Siemens SID801 table is keyed on the number beginning 5WS400, and every row in it can be found from that number alone. The two Peugeot or Citroën numbers beginning 96 that often sit beside it on the label are checks, and one of them can turn up with more than one of our units.

The Siemens number our SID801 table is keyed on

Our table prints each unit as 5WS400, two digits, a letter and -T, as in 5WS40024F-T. Sellers print that same number as 5WS40024F-T, 5WS40024FT or 5WS40024F, and all three name one unit. The family name appears both ways too, as SID801 or SID 801.

Keep the letter with its digits. 5WS40025E and 5WS40025C share their digits and differ only in that letter, and our table holds them as separate rows. An SID801A is a different family from the SID801, so read the name on the label in full before you match it here.

If the label names another family altogether, look through the Peugeot engine ECUs under a different family name or the rest of the Citroën engine ECU pages. For a car from neither maker, start at engine ECU repairs by marque, Peugeot and Citroën aside.

The two 96 numbers printed beside it

Many sellers print two 96 numbers for an SID801 and mark them SW and HW. Send both, exactly as they appear, together with the Siemens number. Neither one stands in for it: our table finds a row by the Siemens number, and for five of the seven rows that is the only number it lists.

The other two rows carry a 96 number as well. Our table lists 5WS40024F against 96 468 011 80, and 5WS40025C against 96 443 239 80.

That second number shows why the Siemens number leads. 96 443 239 80 is also printed with 5WS40025E, so on its own it does not separate 5WS40025E from 5WS40025C. A 96 number that agrees with our table is a useful confirmation, but where it is shared, only the Siemens number settles the row.

Cars and the 2.0 HDi on record against the SID801

Each of the seven numbers has a Peugeot or Citroën on record against it. 5WS40022F is on record from the Citroën C5, 5WS40023F from the Citroën Xsara and 5WS40024F from the Peugeot 406.

Two cars appear against two numbers each. The Peugeot 307 is on record against 5WS40020G and 5WS40030B, and the Citroën Berlingo against 5WS40025E and 5WS40025C. For a unit from either car, the model leaves two rows in play and the Siemens number picks between them.

The 2.0 HDi is on record against five rows: 5WS40022F, 5WS40023F, 5WS40024F, 5WS40025E and 5WS40030B. No engine size is on record for 5WS40020G or 5WS40025C, so for those two the car and the label numbers carry the check between them.

These are the cars each number has been recorded in, not a limit on where it can be fitted. An SID801 from a Peugeot or Citroën not named here is still one to send us.

Copying an SID801 label onto the Repair Form

Take the numbers from the unit itself rather than from an invoice or an online listing. Fill in the Repair Form, Siemens number first and both 96 numbers after it, then add the car, its engine size and what the car does when the fault is present.

If a character on the label is worn or hard to read, send what you can make out and mark the part you are unsure of. Everything on the label is useful to us, and a partial number with a note is better than a guess.

What happens to an SID801 once it reaches us

We work as a mail-in service for customers across the UK. When your SID801 arrives, it is logged, inspected and tested electrically, then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you described. Our own engineers carry this out in our own UK workshop, on our own equipment.

We report back with what the diagnosis has found before any chargeable work starts, and nothing goes ahead until you have authorised it.

The repair is made at component level on the unit you sent, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment. It is not finished until it passes final testing, and it goes back to you covered by our 24-month warranty.

All seven SID801 numbers are listed below, with the two 96 numbers our table holds.
