Eleven of the twelve Bosch ME7.4.5 units in our table can be traced from either of two numbers on the label: the Bosch number beginning 0261, or the Peugeot or Citroën number beginning 96. That matters when part of a label is worn, scratched or hard to read.
Below, each number is followed to its row in turn, then the car is used as a check, and the page ends with how the repair is handled once the unit reaches us.
Two numbers on an ME7.4.5 label, each enough on its own
Every row in our table pairs one Bosch number with one Peugeot or Citroën number, and no 96 number appears on two rows. A legible 96 number therefore leads to a single unit as surely as the Bosch number does, and when both are clear, each confirms the other.
The one row to treat differently is 0261201610, a Peugeot 307 unit. For it, please send the Bosch number together with the Peugeot number exactly as it is printed on your label, and we will confirm the pair before any work is agreed.
One caution applies to every row. A label can carry more than one number beginning 96, and not all of them belong to a single unit, so copy down every 96 number you can see rather than choosing one.
Reading the Bosch number: close ME7.4.5 neighbours, different cars
All twelve Bosch numbers begin 0261, and ten of them continue 208, so the opening digits do little sorting. The last three digits do the work, and close neighbours there belong to different cars.
0261201609 and 0261201610 are consecutive, yet the first is recorded against the Citroën C4 and the second against the Peugeot 307. Further on, 0261208899 (C4), 0261208901 (206), 0261208902 (C3), 0261208904 (1007), 0261208907 (C2) and 0261208908 (Xsara Picasso) fall inside a run of ten consecutive numbers, and no two of them share a car.
Copy the number from the label on the casing, digit by digit. A spaced form such as 0 261 208 901 is the same number, but a listing or an invoice is no substitute for the unit in your hand, because one slipped digit can land on another car’s row.
Read the name with the same care. The ME7.4.4 is a separate Bosch unit with its own numbers, so check that the last digit of the name on your label is a 5.
Reading the 96 number when the Bosch one is unclear
Where the Bosch number is partly lost, the 96 number takes over. On the Citroën C4 rows, 96 633 945 80 sits beside 0261201609, 96 574 894 80 beside 0261208491 and 96 623 073 80 beside 0261208899. For the Peugeot 206 it is 96 582 872 80 beside 0261208839 and 96 613 839 80 beside 0261208901, and the 307’s 0261208558 carries 96 593 065 80.
The other rows, one per car, work the same way: 96 621 265 80 for the C3’s 0261208902, 96 576 006 80 for the 1007’s 0261208904, 96 639 903 80 for the C2’s 0261208907, 96 593 177 80 for the Xsara Picasso’s 0261208908 and 96 625 195 80 for the 207’s 0261208965. Labels on 0261208908 are also found printed with 96 624 674 80, one more reason to send every 96 number you can read.
If any digit of the 96 number is missing or doubtful, say so on the form rather than guessing. A gap we know about is easier to resolve than a confident wrong digit.
What the car adds to an ME7.4.5 match
Once a number has led you to a row, the car recorded against it should be the one the unit came from. Five cars sit on one row each: the Citroën C3, Peugeot 1007, Citroën C2, Citroën Xsara Picasso and Peugeot 207. The Peugeot 206 and 307 have two rows each, and the Citroën C4 has three.
Engine size narrows little. Every row with a size on record is a 1.6, including both 206 rows, both 307 rows and two of the three C4 rows, while 0261201609, 0261208902 and 0261208904 have no size on record. That means only that none is recorded, not that the engine is different.
Valve count adds a little more. 0261208558, 0261208907 and 0261208965 are recorded as 16-valve, and they belong to three different cars, so the figure supports a row you have already found rather than finding one for you.
If neither number on your label appears in our table, look for the unit under another name. Browse our Peugeot engine ECU repair list or Citroën engine ECUs with a different name on the label, and for a car from any other manufacturer, start with engine ECU repairs across the whole range.
Sending the ME7.4.5 to our workshop
Fill in the Repair Form, every label number included: the Bosch number, each 96 number, the car, its engine size if you know it and the fault you have noticed. Then post the unit to us, so the car itself never needs to travel.
When it arrives, the unit is logged, inspected and electrically tested, then diagnosed against the fault you described. Our own engineers carry out the repair in-house at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, so the ME7.4.5 you get back is the one that came out of your car.
Before any chargeable work, we contact you with what we found and wait for your go-ahead. A repaired unit is released only after it passes final testing, and the repair carried out is covered by our 24-month warranty.
All twelve Bosch ME7.4.5 numbers are listed below, each beside its Peugeot or Citroën number.
