The Peugeot 206 is the hardest car to match on this page. Four of the thirteen Bosch ME7.4.4 numbers in our table are recorded against it, and all four are recorded as a 1.6 16-valve, so nothing you can read off the car separates them.

Every other car here leaves one or two rows, and the method that settles a 206 settles those too, so the page starts with the hard case. After it come the other cars, the Peugeot or Citroën number on the label, what to send and how the repair is carried out.

Why a Peugeot 206 leaves four ME7.4.4 rows open

The four 206 rows are 0261206606, 0261206942, 0261207477 and 0261208101. Sellers list each of them as an ME7.4.4, each is recorded as a 1.6 petrol, and each is also recorded as a 16-valve. The model, the engine size and the valve count describe the car accurately, and they describe all four rows equally well.

One of the four is shared with another car. 0261206606 is also recorded against the Citroën Xsara, so an Xsara leaves a single row to check where a 206 still leaves four. Engine size does not help anywhere on this page, because every row with a size on record is a 1.6.

Reading a 206’s ME7.4.4 label down to one row

With the car unable to choose, the Bosch number on the unit’s label does the whole job. All four begin 0261 and then split across three blocks: 0261 206 for 0261206606 and 0261206942, 0261 207 for 0261207477, and 0261 208 for 0261208101. The block leaves one or two, and the last three digits settle it.

Read the number from the unit itself rather than from a listing or an old invoice, and treat a spaced form such as 0 261 207 477 as the same number. Check the name printed with it as well: the ME7.4.4 and the M7.4.4 are separate Bosch units whose numbers do not overlap, so the “E” on the label matters.

Only one of the 206 rows carries a Peugeot or Citroën number in our table: 96 432 189 80, beside 0261207477. The other three have no number in that column, so for 0261206606, 0261206942 and 0261208101 please send every other number your label shows alongside the Bosch one. A second number beginning 96 is common on these labels, and each one helps us confirm the unit before any work starts.

Where the car does most of the work

Away from the 206, the car name cuts the table to one or two rows. The Peugeot 1007 has one, 0261208191. The Peugeot 307 has two, 0261206943 and 0261208301; the Citroën C3 has two, 0261207858 and 0261207860; and the Citroën C2 has two, 0261207999 and 0261208376.

The Citroën Berlingo has two as well, 0261206944 and 0261207686, and a Peugeot Partner points to the second of those. No engine size is on record for the 1007 row or for 0261207999, one of the C2 pair; the other rows in this group are recorded as 1.6. Once the car has narrowed things this far, the label either chooses between two numbers or confirms the one.

If your Bosch number is not among the thirteen on this page, look for it under another designation. The rest of our Peugeot engine ECU work and Citroën engine ECU repairs by unit name list the others for each marque, and a car from a different manufacturer is covered under engine ECU repairs for makes beyond these two.

Checking the Peugeot or Citroën number beside it

Most rows outside the 206 group also carry a Peugeot or Citroën number in our table: 96 387 836 80 beside 0261206944, 96 490 093 80 beside 0261207686, 96 570 367 80 beside 0261208301, 96 534 918 80 beside 0261207999 and 96 518 124 80 beside 0261207860. Labels for 0261207860 are also found printed with 96 503 478 80, so send whichever your unit carries.

Two of the numbers are a near miss. 96 584 770 80 sits beside 0261208191 from the 1007, and 96 584 775 80 beside 0261208376 from a C2; they differ only in the digit before the closing 80. The car tells you which of the two to expect, but copy that digit carefully all the same.

The 307’s 0261206943 and the C3’s 0261207858 have no number in that column, which makes five rows without one, counting the three 206 rows. For any of them, send every other number printed on the label.

From the Repair Form to the final test

Fill in the Repair Form, reading every number off the unit: the Bosch number, any 96 number, the car, the engine size if you know it, and the fault you have noticed. Then post the ECU to our workshop. Everything is handled by post, so where in the UK you are makes no difference to the service.

On arrival, each unit is logged, inspected and tested electrically, then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you described. Our own engineers repair it in-house at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit that comes back to you is the one you sent.

We contact you with our findings before any chargeable work starts, and nothing goes ahead without your authorisation. A unit leaves only after passing final testing, and the repair carried out is covered by our 24-month warranty.

All thirteen Bosch ME7.4.4 numbers are listed below, with the Peugeot or Citroën number wherever our table holds one.
