The EDC15C13 is a Bosch Electronic Diesel Control unit — the engine management computer fitted to the diesel Vauxhall applications it was designed for. It reads the crank and cam signals, coolant and air temperatures, rail pressure and pedal demand, then governs injector timing and quantity, fuel delivery and the engine’s fuelling in real time. The EDC15 platform is a robust, long-serving diesel control system, but the units still in service are now well beyond their original design life, and it is age rather than any inherent weakness that brings most of them to us. • Dry or cracked solder joints, where years of thermal cycling fatigue the internal connections and cause intermittent cut-outs that come and go with vibration or temperature.
• Degraded voltage regulation, where the internal 5-volt supply that feeds the engine sensors drifts or collapses and throws inconsistent readings across the board.
• Failed injector driver stages, leaving one or more injectors without a proper control signal, so the engine misfires, runs down on power or will not start.
• Corrupted memory, where the stored fuelling data or immobiliser information no longer reads cleanly.
