Type: AC Delphi Delco Engine Management
Fits: Daewoo
Fuel: Petrol
Ref: ECUT340175
Note: This ECU may also fit other models.
A label worn down to a few legible figures does not end the search for the Delphi Delco Multec petrol ECU from your Daewoo. The engine size and the model can take over part of the label’s job, and the sections below set out how far each one goes.
We repair these engine ECUs in our own UK workshop, and every repair carries a 24-month warranty.
What can you still read on the label?
The label carries an eight-digit GM part number followed by a two-character code. Copy both exactly as printed, in the same order, because that is how our table lists them.
If only part of the label has survived, write down the characters you are sure of and put a question mark where one is missing or unclear. A partial number marked honestly is more use to us than a complete one with a guessed figure in it. Every number in our table begins 162, so those opening figures narrow nothing; the later digits are what separate one unit from the next.
Where does a 1.5 or 2.0 engine point?
When the number cannot be read at all, the engine size is the next detail to give us, and for two sizes our records point somewhere definite. A 1.5 is on record against 16199550, a number also on record from the Daewoo Nexia and the Daewoo Espero. A 2.0 is on record against 16246989 and 16246999, both of them on record from the Daewoo Leganza.
Neither size lands on a single unit. 16199550 appears in the table on its own and with twelve different codes after it, and a 2.0 still leaves two separate numbers. What the size does is shrink eight candidate numbers to one or two, and a label with only a few readable characters may then be enough.
What if no engine size is on record?
For the other five numbers in the table, our records hold no engine size that we would quote: 16238981, 16246899, 16246909, 16246929 and 16246939. With these, the model is the only vehicle detail with evidence behind it.
The Daewoo Nubira is on record against 16238981 and 16246909. The Daewoo Lanos is on record against 16246899, 16246929 and 16246939. Either car therefore leaves more than one number open, and the records show where these units have been found rather than every car they went into. A Daewoo that appears nowhere above is not ruled out; the Note line at the top of the page says as much.
What do the Type, Fits, Fuel and Ref lines mean?
The lines at the top of the page describe the unit type, not your car. Type gives the maker as AC Delphi Delco. Fits says Daewoo and names no model, which is why the model and engine size have to come from you. Fuel confirms this is a petrol engine ECU.
Ref: ECUT340175 is our own reference for the type of unit this page covers. It is not one of the GM numbers in the table; the numbers to match are the ones on your label. The Delphi Delco Multec name also heads our Delphi Delco Multec engine ECU repairs page, and whichever page you start from, it is the label that identifies your unit.
What happens to a petrol engine ECU on our bench?
Each unit is logged, inspected by eye and tested electrically, and only then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you have described. The repair is made at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and it is not finished until the unit passes its final test.
Component level means the work goes to the part that has failed, such as a dry joint, a voltage regulator or an injector driver, rather than to the whole unit. Those are examples of engine ECU faults in general, not a list of known faults for the Delphi Delco Multec. Our own engineers do the work, and nothing is sent out to another firm.
You hear what testing has found before any repair begins, and nothing is repaired until you have agreed to it. The repair is then covered by our 24-month warranty.
What should you send with the unit?
The unit comes to us by post, from anywhere in the UK. Alongside it, fill in the Repair Form, faded label or not, and include the GM number and code as printed, or as much of them as you can read; the Daewoo model; the engine size; and what the car was doing when the fault appeared.
If the engine ECU in your Daewoo carries a different name, look through Daewoo’s engine ECUs, gathered under one heading. For any engine ECU other than a Delco, start at the top of our repairs section. The GM numbers we list for this unit type follow.
