Every Bosch EDC16CP35 in our table came out of a BMW with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel, so on this page the engine tells you nothing about which unit you have. The five references are told apart by the two numbers on the label, and those numbers lead to the car far more reliably than the car leads back to them.
Why the 3.0 diesel does not narrow the table
Engine size often rules out rows before anything else is checked. Here it rules out none. The five references reached the 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series and X5, and a car described simply as a BMW 3.0 diesel matches every line of the table.
What the table does give you is two numbers on every row: the ten-digit Bosch number and the seven-digit BMW DDE number printed beside it. None of the five BMW cells is blank, and that is what makes the rest of this page work.
Read from the label, two rows point to one car
Start with the numbers on the case and work towards the vehicle, and two of the five references come back with a single car. 0281 011 886, paired with BMW 7 798 506, is recorded by most of the sources we checked against the 7 Series 730d of the E65/E66 generation. 0281 015 128, paired with 7 809 955, is recorded against the X5 3.0sd on the E70 body.
The other three do not settle on a car. Sellers and catalogues list each of them against more than one BMW:
- 0281 012 707 (BMW 7 799 856): listed against the 330d (E90) and the 530d (E60), and by some sellers against the 730d.
- 0281 013 500 (BMW 7 803 369): listed against the 530d (E60/E61) and the 7 Series.
- 0281 015 129 (BMW 7 809 944): listed against the X5 3.0d, the 330d (E90) and the E60 5 Series.
We do not choose a car for any of these three, because the records do not. What they do agree on is the pairing itself: each of the five Bosch-to-BMW pairings is confirmed by fourteen or more separate sources.
Read from the car, no model leads to a single row
Now run the lookup the other way, starting from the car. The X5 is named against 0281 015 128 and 0281 015 129. The E90 330d appears against 0281 012 707 and 0281 015 129. The E60 5 Series turns up against 0281 012 707, 0281 013 500 and 0281 015 129, and the 7 Series against 0281 011 886, 0281 012 707 and 0281 013 500.
So even the two single-car rows do not work in reverse. A 730d does not tell you that its unit is 0281 011 886, and an X5 does not tell you that it is 0281 015 128. The car is a sound way to confirm a row once the label has been read, but it cannot stand in for the label.
Quoting both numbers, and the pair that runs backwards
With a BMW number on every row, an enquiry that quotes both numbers matches exactly one line of the table, while a single number copied with one slipped digit can land on a neighbour. The last two rows show how little it takes.
0281 015 128 and 0281 015 129 are consecutive Bosch numbers, but their BMW numbers run the other way: 7 809 955 goes with the 128 and 7 809 944 with the 129. Assume that the later Bosch number carries the higher BMW number and you will pair them the wrong way round. Take both numbers straight from the case rather than from this page, so that we match your unit and not our own table.
What happens once the unit reaches our workshop
On arrival the unit is logged and given a visual inspection, then tested electrically before diagnosis turns to the fault you reported. Board-level work is carried out under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, by our own engineers in our own UK workshop, with nothing sent out to a third party.
When the diagnosis is complete, we contact you with the findings, and no chargeable work begins until you authorise it. We repair the component that has failed, so the EDC16CP35 you post is the one that goes back into the car. A repair is only finished once the unit passes final testing, and the repair carried out is covered by a 24-month warranty. No recoding is necessary on refitting; the unit you sent is the unit you get back, plug and play, with its original coding.
We work by post from anywhere in the UK. To send one in, start with the label on the Repair Form: give both numbers and the model the unit came from.
The five EDC16CP35 pairings in Bosch-number order
If your case carries a designation other than EDC16CP35, see BMW diesels with a different Bosch designation; if it did not come from a BMW at all, look at engine ECUs from a different carmaker. Otherwise, the five pairings are listed below in Bosch-number order: find your row from the label, then use the car to confirm it.
