Two of the three Bosch EDC17CP02 references on this page are recorded in almost the same BMWs, and the third stands slightly apart. All three are engine ECUs from BMW 2.0-litre diesels, covering the 320d, the 1 Series and the 520d between them. What follows sets out what each reference is recorded against, and why the label on the unit, rather than the car, is what separates them.
Two references that share nearly every car
0 281 015 043 and 0 281 015 075 read almost as one record. Both are recorded in the 320d in its E90 and E91 forms, both appear in the 1 Series as the 120d, and both are documented with BMW’s N47 2.0-litre diesel engine. Their BMW numbers are printed in the table below: 7 811 700 against 043, and 7 810 000 against 075.
With that much in common, a description of the car points equally well at either unit. An E90 320d with the N47 matches both records, and so does a 120d. Where they differ is worth knowing, but it only narrows the choice.
Where the two records part company
0 281 015 043 is the reference also recorded in the 520d. None of the other rows on this page carries a 5 Series in its record, so a unit that came out of a 520d points first to 043.
0 281 015 075 has no such car of its own. Its 1 Series record includes the 118d as well as the 120d, but a 118d listing has also been recorded against 043, so the 118d does not separate the two.
Even the 520d pointer is only as complete as the record behind it. A car missing from a reference’s record has not been shown not to use it; it has simply not been documented against it. A 520d therefore narrows the question without closing it, and the numbers on the unit remain the confirmation.
0 281 014 572, the 320d-only reference
The third reference is recorded against the E90 320d and no other car in our record. The table also treats it differently: the BMW number column is blank on this row, where the other two carry a number.
That blank is a gap in our table, not on the unit. The label on a 0 281 014 572 also carries a BMW DDE number, so if yours is this reference, quote the whole label: the Bosch number and the BMW number exactly as printed. Together they identify the unit without depending on the car at all.
Why the label decides and the car does not
Set the three records side by side and the pattern is plain. An E90 320d appears against all three references. A 120d and a 118d each appear against two. Only the 520d leans towards a single reference, and even that is not proof on its own.
The label has no such difficulty. Each unit carries a Bosch number, which on all three of these begins 0 281, alongside a BMW number, and those two lines identify the exact unit. Read them from the case itself, or photograph them where they are legible, rather than working from an invoice or a description of the car.
If the Bosch number on your label is not one of these three, look through every BMW engine ECU on our books instead. For a unit from another manufacturer’s car, choose the car’s make and start from there.
Sending an EDC17CP02 in for repair
We work as a mail-in service across the UK, so the unit reaches our workshop by post whether an owner or a garage sends it. Every engine ECU is repaired in-house by our own engineers, in our own UK workshop, on our own equipment.
On arrival it is logged, visually inspected and electrically tested, then taken through fault-specific diagnostics. We contact you with the outcome and a quote, and no chargeable work begins until you have authorised it.
The repair is made at component level: the part that has failed is found and replaced, rather than the whole unit being exchanged, so the original ECU goes back into the BMW with the coding it already had. That work is covered by a 24-month warranty on the specific repair carried out.
When you are ready, open the Repair Form and say which of the three you have, adding both numbers from the label and the BMW model the unit came out of.
The three references, with the BMW number wherever the table carries one, are listed below.
