On an LBO-141 label, the Ford number and the word printed after it check each other. 3S71-12A650-PA is on record with the word 2CBA, and 3S71-12A650-PB with 2CBB, so each word ends in the same letter as its number. We repair both units at component level.

A with 2CBA, B with 2CBB

The two numbers are identical up to the last character. Both are built on 3S71-12A650, and only the final A or B separates them. Their words follow the same pattern: 2CB is common to both, and the last letter moves in step with the number’s.

That gives you two readings of the same letter. If the end of the number is scuffed or faint, the word may still settle it, and the reverse holds as well. Should the number and the word seem to disagree, read the label again in good light before you record either.

Why a PA ending is not enough on its own

A two-letter ending is a short piece of text, and the same ending can appear on other Ford bases. So PA by itself does not place a unit on this page. Check that your number begins 3S71-12A650 before relying on the ending.

If the base on your label is anything else, you are holding a Ford engine ECU whose number begins differently, and our Ford pages are where to look for it.

What the Mondeo can confirm

Both numbers are on record from the Ford Mondeo Mk3, both from the 2.0 version of that car, and both from petrol models. A 2.0 petrol Mondeo Mk3 is therefore consistent with either row, but nothing about the car separates PA from PB. Both numbers are also on record as LBO-141 units.

What happens to the unit in our workshop

Nobody outside our own UK workshop touches the unit; our engineers do the work there, on our equipment. On arrival it is logged and looked over, then tested electrically, and the diagnosis is aimed at the fault you have reported.

You hear the cause and an estimate from us first, and no chargeable work starts until you agree to it. The fault is then put right at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit leaves only once it has passed final testing. The repair is covered by a 24-month warranty.
