This page is for a Ford engine ECU whose label carries 1S6F-12A650-JA or 1S6F-12A650-KA, the two Ford numbers in our table. We repair units with either number at component level in our own UK workshop, and it is your own unit, not a different one, that comes back to you.
What follows covers what is on record for each number, the letter to check twice on a worn label, and the route a unit takes from our Repair Form to its return.
What the record holds for 1S6F-12A650-JA
1S6F-12A650-JA is on record as an LP4-323 unit, and listings print the word CHCA after it. Our table carries the same word, after a space, with the number run together as 1S6F12A650JA.
It is on record from the Ford Puma. It is also on record from the Ford Fiesta 1.6. Whatever car a unit labelled 1S6F-12A650-JA was taken from, the number on that label is what we book its repair against.
1S6F-12A650-KA, second in our table
1S6F-12A650-KA is on record from the Ford Fiesta 1.6. Our table lists it second, as 1S6F12A650KA, with a four-letter word after it in the same layout as the row above.
When the Ford number on your unit ends in KA, copy it out in full, along with the word printed after it, exactly as both appear; the next section explains why the ending deserves the most care.
J for one row, K for the other
Written out with hyphens, the two numbers begin with the same base, 1S6F-12A650, and both endings close on the letter A. What separates them is the letter that opens the ending: J on the first row, K on the second.
J and K follow one another in the alphabet, and because that letter is the only character the two numbers do not have in common, a worn patch over it is the one that matters.
The word after the number gives a second reading. On a JA unit that word is CHCA, so a clearly printed CHCA is a useful check on an ending that has worn.
Our table prints both numbers without hyphens, so the J or K sits directly after 12A650, as in 1S6F12A650JA and 1S6F12A650KA. If you cannot be sure which of the two letters your label shows, say so on the Repair Form rather than guessing.
From the Repair Form to final testing
We work by post for customers anywhere in the UK. Before the unit is packed, set down the full label and the fault as you have seen it on our Repair Form, then send the engine ECU to our workshop.
On arrival, each unit is logged and visually inspected, then electrically tested, and only then put through diagnostics specific to its fault. The outcome and an estimate come to you next, and nothing chargeable is done until you authorise it.
Our own engineers make the repair at component level, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and the unit leaves us only once it has passed final testing. A 24-month warranty travels back with the unit, covering the repair we carried out.
For a Ford number that is not in this table, look through Ford engine ECU repairs in full. If the car is not a Ford, go to engine ECU repairs for the other manufacturers we handle, or see the list of engine ECUs we accept for repair.
Both numbers follow in our table, each run together with its word after a space.
