Put the car first, and the six Bosch MP3.1 units in our table fall almost neatly into place: most cars point to one unit, and only the Citroën AX and Peugeot 106 point to two. This page takes you from your car to its row, shows how the label settles the AX and 106 case, and ends with what happens once the unit is with us.

Matching a Bosch MP3.1 to its car

Four of the six rows belong to cars that turn up on no other row. A Citroën BX points to 0261200206, a Citroën ZX to 0261200212 and a Peugeot 405 to 0261200213. The Peugeot 605 and Citroën XM share 0261200214, so either badge leads to the same unit.

For these five cars, the model name is a sound first step, and the Bosch number on the label should agree with it. If the two disagree, go by the label, because the unit in your hand is what we repair, and tell us about the mismatch on the form.

The Citroën AX and Peugeot 106 on two MP3.1 rows

The other two rows, 0261200203 and 0261200217, are both recorded against the Citroën AX and the Peugeot 106. For an owner of either car, the model name narrows the table to two units and goes no further.

Engine size does not close the gap. 0261200217 is recorded as a 1.4, but 0261200203 has no size on record. That means only that none has been recorded, not that the engine is different, so a 1.4 engine does not rule 0261200203 out.

The Bosch number settles it. The two end 203 and 217, far enough apart that a clear label leaves no room for doubt. If the label is worn, give us the digits you can read and mark any you are unsure of, rather than filling them in from memory.

Reading the Bosch number on an MP3.1 label

All six numbers begin 0261 200, so the last three digits carry the match. Three of them also run in sequence: 0261200212, 0261200213 and 0261200214 belong to a ZX, a 405 and a 605 or XM respectively. One misread digit in that run moves the unit to a different car.

Take the number from the unit rather than from paperwork, and do not worry about spacing: 0 261 200 213 and 0261200213 are the same reference. Our table lists these units by Bosch number, but please send every number on the label, including any Peugeot or Citroën number, together with the car.

Check the name on the label as well: the Bosch MP3.2 is a separate unit with its own numbers.

What engine size confirms once the MP3.1 row is found

Size checks a match rather than making one. 0261200206 and 0261200212 are recorded as 1.9, 0261200214 as a 2.0 and 0261200217 as a 1.4, while 0261200203 and 0261200213 have no size on record.

The BX and ZX rows share 1.9, so size cannot tell them apart; the car already does. Where your engine size agrees with the row your car and label point to, that is one more sign the match is right. Where it disagrees, note it on the form and we will look into it before any work is agreed.

How an MP3.1 is handled at our workshop

Fill in the Repair Form, car and label side by side: the Bosch number, any other numbers on the label, the car, its engine size if known and the fault you have noticed. Then post the unit to us; we work as a mail-in service across the UK, so the car itself stays where it is.

On arrival the unit is logged, inspected and electrically tested, then diagnosed against the fault you described. Our own engineers repair it in-house at component level, working under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment, and it is your original unit that goes back to you, not a substitute.

Before any chargeable work begins, we contact you with our findings and wait for your go-ahead. Your unit is returned only after it passes final testing, and the repair carried out is covered by our 24-month warranty.
