Two of the five cars documented on this Siemens Simos PPD1.2 page appear twice. The Volkswagen Golf 5 2.0 TDI is recorded against two references, and so is the Seat Leon 2.0 TDI, while the Passat, the Audi A3 and the Skoda Octavia have one each. If your unit came out of a Golf or a Leon, whether you are the owner or the garage, the car alone will not tell you which one you hold. The label will.

All seven references described here share the 03G 906 018 base. Each is labelled Simos PPD1.2 in the records, and each comes from a car with the 2.0 TDI PD diesel engine. The maker is Siemens, though many cases carry the Siemens VDO name instead, so either name on the label is consistent with this page. What changes from one unit to the next is the pair of letters after 018.

Golf 5 2.0 TDI: DF or FC after 03G 906 018

Two Simos PPD1.2 references are recorded for the Golf 5 2.0 TDI: 03G 906 018 DF and 03G 906 018 FC. Knowing the model gets a Golf unit down to those two. It takes you no further, because both belong to the same car.

The records add an engine code to only one of them. FC is listed with the BMN engine, while DF has no engine code on record at all. That is a gap in what has been published about DF rather than evidence about its engine, so the engine code cannot be used to choose between DF and FC. The two letters on the case make that choice.

Seat Leon 2.0 TDI: DT or GQ after 03G 906 018

The Leon is set out the same way. Two references are documented against the Seat Leon 2.0 TDI, 03G 906 018 DT and 03G 906 018 GQ, and again only one of the pair has an engine code beside it: GQ, recorded with the BMN engine.

Nothing is on record about the engine behind DT, so the Leon follows the Golf’s rule. The model name narrows the search without finishing it, the engine code cannot break the tie, and the letters after 018 settle it.

For a garage that sees both cars, the practical upshot is one habit rather than two: on a Golf 5 or a Leon 2.0 TDI, read the full reference off the case before anything else. A Leon whose label reads anything other than DT or GQ is not described here; continue through the Seat engine ECU selection.

Passat, A3 and Octavia: one PPD1.2 reference each

For the other three cars the record gives a single reference apiece, so the car and the label should agree with each other at once. If they do not, raise it with us before the unit is posted.

Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI (B6): 03G 906 018 AS. The BMR engine is recorded against this reference, and no other reference described here carries BMR. A Passat unit with different letters after 018 is outside this page, and the Volkswagen route above applies.

Audi A3 2.0 TDI: 03G 906 018 DN. There is no engine code on record for it. An A3 unit carrying a different reference is not the one described here, so move across to Audi to look for yours.

Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI (Mk2): 03G 906 018 EL. The records also name the Octavia RS against EL, so an RS unit carrying those letters belongs on this page too. For an Octavia with a different label, look through Skoda-badged engine ECUs instead.
