The Ford number on a Bosch EDC16C34 label will lead you to most rows in our table, but on three of them the ten-digit Bosch number has to make the match instead. Knowing which three before you fill in the Repair Form saves a round of questions.

The Focus accounts for seven of the eleven rows and the Fiesta for two. One row is on record from a Mazda 1.6 diesel, and for the last we hold too little to name a car. The sections below take those groups in turn, then cover what to copy from the label and how the repair is handled.

Seven rows the Ford number finds

On seven rows, the Ford number, the Bosch number and the car line up, and each of these units is on record from a 1.6 TDCi.

Two of them are Fiesta rows. Bosch 0281 011 612, printed with 5S61-12A650-GB, is on record from the Fiesta and the Fusion, while 0281 014 803, printed with 8V21-12A650-KD, is on record from the Fiesta.

The other five belong to the Focus: 0281 011 701 (6M51-12A650-NA), 0281 012 486 (5M51-12A650-LB), 0281 012 487 (7M51-12A650-UA), 0281 012 489 (6M51-12A650-CH) and 0281 015 242 (8M51-12A650-XC). Of these, 0281 011 701 is the only one also on record from the C-Max.

With five units in this group on record from the same car, the car cannot choose between them. On a Focus unit the label picks the row, and the two letters after 12A650 (NA, LB, UA, CH or XC) are where these five differ most plainly. Both 0281 011 701 and 0281 012 489 open with 6M51, so the letters are what separate that pair.

Three rows where the Bosch number takes over

Of the four rows left, three cannot be matched on the Ford number, and the Bosch number beginning 0281 carries the match instead.

0281 015 608 has no Ford number in our table, so the Bosch number alone identifies it. It is on record from the Focus 1.6 TDCi.

0281 012 530 and 0281 016 740 each have a Ford number printed beside them, but neither Ford number is one our record ties to a car. For these two rows this page matches on the Bosch number only.

Matched that way, 0281 016 740 is on record from the Focus 1.6, and 0281 012 530 from a Mazda 1.6 diesel. That makes 0281 012 530 the one row in the table on record from a car that is not a Ford, so a unit taken from a Mazda should be checked against it first.

0281 011 995: no car on record

For 0281 011 995 we hold too little on record to name a car, so this page gives no model or engine size for it.

What it does have is a pair of numbers printed together in our table: 0281 011 995 and 5U71-12A650-AA. If both are on your label, this is your row. If only one of them is, say which on the Repair Form and our engineers will confirm coverage before anything else happens.

What to copy from an EDC16C34 label

Copy the Ford number exactly as it is printed, including anything after it. Three rows in our table show a four-character code in that position (4DWB after 5S61-12A650-GB, 9BXA after 6M51-12A650-NA and 7EFA after 7M51-12A650-UA), and if your label carries one, include it.

Then write out the Bosch number in full, all ten digits from 0281, and name the car the unit came from, with the engine size if you know it. On the three rows covered above, that Bosch number is the detail that settles the match.

How the repair runs once your unit arrives

The unit comes to our workshop by post from anywhere in the UK. It is booked in and examined, tested electrically, then taken through diagnostics aimed at the fault you described, all in-house by our own engineers on our own equipment.

A failed component is renewed on the board itself, under a microscope with temperature-controlled rework equipment. The unit is finished only when it passes final testing.
