What ESD-402 on a label tells you

ESD-402 is a code printed on some Ford engine ECU labels, and it is a sensible place to start. It narrows the search. It does not, on its own, identify the unit for us; the longer Ford number on the same label does that.

Copy the Ford number in full

Take the Ford number off the label character by character, hyphens included, together with any word printed after it. That complete line is our reference when we identify your unit. A number stopped partway, or recalled from memory rather than copied, can lead to the wrong unit.

95AB-12A650-DA, with the word AFAR after it, has been reported on labels alongside ESD-402. That number appears in the EEC-IV listing for Ford, printed there without hyphens as 95AB12A650DA AFAR. If a different Ford number sits on your label, go by that number rather than by the ESD code.
